How to Break In Wedding Shoes Without Ruining Your Feet

How to Break In Wedding Shoes Without Ruining Your Feet

Quick Summary:

  • Start wearing your shoes indoors three weeks before the wedding.
  • Use a hairdryer on low heat to soften stiff areas.
  • Double-sided fashion tape prevents blisters on the heel and toe.

Sore feet are the most common post-wedding complaint we hear from brides. And almost every time, the cause is the same: the shoes were not broken in. Beautiful shoes that have never been worn will punish you on the day you need them most.

The Three-Week Method

Start simple: wear your wedding shoes indoors for 30 minutes a day, three weeks before your wedding. Just around the house. You are not trying to stretch them dramatically — you are softening the material and letting the shoe learn the shape of your foot. Thick socks help if the shoe is stiff.

The Hairdryer Trick

If there is a specific pressure point — usually the back of the heel or across the toe box — use a hairdryer on the lowest heat setting to warm that area for 20–30 seconds, then immediately put the shoe on and walk around until it cools. The heat gently softens the material without damaging it.

Blister Prevention

Double-sided fashion tape applied to the inside of the heel cup is your best friend. It prevents the shoe from slipping and rubbing on the most vulnerable part of your foot. Reapply before the ceremony and again before the reception if needed.

The Day-Of Kit

Pack a small bag: plasters in your exact skin tone, a travel-size foot spray, and a second pair of flats for the reception. No matter how well you have broken in your shoes, permission to change is the kindest gift you can give yourself.
